about
Monkey is the first single taken from the forthcoming album Counterpart from Australian pianist Sean Foran (Trichotomy) and Manchester-based guitarist, Stuart McCallum (The Breath, Slowly Rolling Camera); a powerhouse duo coming together for the first time. Though living on opposing sides of the world, they share both a musical style and vision and an uncanny ability to craft songs that complement each other’s musical sensibilities.
While tracks on ‘Counterpart’ range from cinematic textures to delicate piano and guitar improvisations, on ‘Monkey’, McCallum’s earworm-melody coupled with Foran’s proggy synths make for a rich, captivating listen. Much like the title suggests, it is a playful track, shifting, turning and twisting through a myriad of intricate rhythms - guitar and keyboard intertwine, driven by a relentless drum and bass groove. The track, recorded in Manchester, was written by Sean specifically with Stuart in mind. Stuart’s pulsing guitar line contrasting against slower chordal playing on the keys, and building to an exciting, dynamic conclusion.

I've enjoyed you both so many times at Manchester Jazz Festival, and it's great to be able to play this album when those live possibilities are less. peterphilippson
I have been searching for jazzy music similar to "ambient jazz ensemble" I finally found it. sweet jazz, with electronic trip hop downtempo elements. I've listened to all the albums, and this one is my fave. it's impossible to pick a favorite, but it would either be,
Juniper, hyperloop, crossings, or eight days lol. MajikDan
